About Us

Susan McLeod (nee Ralston) grew up on her parents farm north of Glasgow in Scotland and has been involved with ponies from a young age, with both her Father and Grandfather breeding horses.

Although mainly involved in showjumping, Susan always had a keen interest in Highland Ponies.  Her passion started as a young child when she and her family used to visit the McIntosh’s treking centre at Dalbrack, where her mother worked as a teenager.  When Susan was two, her family was very kindly gifted a retired Highland Pony, Flash (see right), by Nancy and Duncan McIntosh and so the dream begins…

Lochnagar Highland Pony Stud is named after the mountain of Lochnagar, one of the most celebrated Munros, a pointed summit rising high above one of Scotland’s most beautiful corries. (Source Walkhighlands).

Lochnagar Highland Pony stud is situated in Dairy Flat, just off State Highway 1 North of Auckland, NZ.  The stud is open all year round to visitors.  Please call ahead to arrange an appointment.
